چکیده

This paper derives a general analytical expression for the correlation coefficient of signals received by two identical spaced antennas in a radar system used to detect meteorological phenomena such as rain and clouds. Such a correlation coefficient is found as a function of the relevant physical parameters, namely distance between antennas (baseline distance), signal bandwidth, and antenna directivity. One of the antennas transmits the signal and receives its echoes from the scatterers, characterizing a monostatic radar, whereas the other antenna only receives these echoes, characterizing a bistatic radar. Our approach can be easily extended to non-identical antennas.

Fixed-Antenna Pointing-Angle Calibration of Airborne Doppler Cloud Radar

Doppler velocity measurements from airborne meteorological Doppler radars require removal of the aircraft motion contribution in order to provide radial velocity of hydrometeor targets. This is a critical step for hydrometeor motion and wind retrievals. The aircraft motion contribution is defined as the scalar product between the radar antenna beam-pointing vector and the aircraft velocity vect...

Processing of Oversampled Signals in Range on Polarimetric Weather Radars with Mismatched Channels

Processing oversampled signals in range with a whitening transformation has been proposed as a means to reduce the variance of meteorological variable estimates on polarimetric Doppler weather radars. However, the original formulation to construct decorrelation transformations does not account for mismatches in the polarimetric channels, which results in abnormally biased polarimetric variable ...

Fast and Accurate 3-D Imaging Algorithm with Linear Array Antennas for UWB Pulse Radars

Pulse radars with UWB signals are promising as a high-resolution imaging technique that can be used for the non-destructive measurement of surface details in industrial products such as antennas and aircraft. We have already proposed a fast 3-D imaging algorithm, SEABED, that utilizes a reversible transform between the time delay and the target boundary. However, data acquisition is time-consum...

Spectral moment estimation for weather radars using a whitening transformation on oversampled data

A method for estimation of Doppler spectral moments on pulsed weather radars is presented. This scheme operates on oversampled echoes in range; that is samples of in-phase and quadrature phase components are taken at a rate several times larger than the reciprocal of the transmitted pulse length. The aforementioned radar variables are estimated by suitably combining weighted averages of these o...

Principles of networked weather radar operation at attenuating frequencies

Conventional meteorological radars provide coverage for long ranges (often hundreds of kilometers) and support weather surveillance and hydrological monitoring applications by using high power transmitters and mechanically scanned antennas. These systems operate at wavelengths in 5–10 cm range in order to minimize attenuation due to precipitation, and this necessitates the use of physically lar...
